Eating Out: My Thai & Noodle – South Lake Tahoe

My Thai & Noodle – A New Favorite?

While looking for dinner options for the family to go to, we initially thought about going to My Thai located down by “the Y” in South Lake Tahoe, but then I saw that they have a sister restaurant called My Thai & Noodle in Stateline, NV. This was much closer to where we were staying. And because it looked like they could accommodate making dishes vegan, we decided to try this restaurant that was new to us. This is particularly exciting because we visit Lake Tahoe pretty much every summer, so having a new restaurant to try is always fun.

Because we arrived a little before 6:00pm, the restaurant wasn’t yet busy, so we had no problem getting a table for six of us. The dining room is fairly spacious so they would have to be REALLY busy for there to be a wait for seating.

Our server was helpful and assured me that many of their dishes can be made vegan. However, some dishes – such as the Pad Thai – couldn’t be made gluten-free. I’m not 100% sure why, but there were plenty of other options anyway, so I was fine with skipping it. (The rest of my family got Pad Thai with chicken to share.)

Some Food Sampling

We started with an appetizer of vegetable fresh rolls, which were made with rice paper, rice noodle, carrot, cucumber, mint, bean sprout, cilantro, avocado, and basil, and a peanut sauce for dipping. I don’t think I’ve had many (if any) fresh rolls with avocado in them, so this was a nice combination of textures and natural flavors. Minimal salty and sugary ingredients added.

We almost always get some kind of fried rice dish, and the Thai-Style Fried Rice could be made vegan, so we got that with tofu. Flavorful and lots of huge chunks of fried tofu. I might have liked having an option for steamed firm tofu instead of fried tofu, but it wasn’t too terribly greasy.

There is a small vegetarian section on the menu, and I actually would have loved to try ALL of them! But I ended up choosing the Eggplant Lovers (stir-fried Chinese eggplant, yellow onion, carrot baby corn, broccoli and sweet basil in a homemade sauce) and the Cashew Tofu (premium tofu sautéed with carrot, celery, onion, broccoli and cashew nut mixed in a brown sauce). OMG, both were soooo good. I’m not entirely sure but the sauces for both tasted very similar, so they may have possibly been the same sauce? But either way, the sauces were so tasty (albeit a tad salty) that if you poured it on cardboard, I would eat said cardboard.

And the Cashew Tofu is a combination of flavors I never would have thought to put together, but the nuttiness of the cashews compliments the tofu so very nicely.

There was far more food than we probably needed, and we didn’t have space for dessert at all. I would have loved to try their mango sticky rice, as it is usually naturally vegan and gluten-free, and usually one of the few desserts I can eat at most restaurants. Maybe next time – and I’m pretty sure we will be coming back because a) we enjoyed the food and b) it’s easy for us to get to from our resort timeshare.
