A little bit late posting this week – makes it tough when I actually have a social life! (Just kidding!) There were still lots of yummy vegan eats, though!
Now that the weather is starting to get colder (it’s clearly no longer summer here in New York City!), I’ve started making oatmeal at work again. I’m a big fan of savory oatmeal, and I’ve actually been doing a combination of oatmeal and brown rice grits. My latest mix-ins have been nutritional yeast and dulse granules. The nutritional yeast because I like the sort-of cheesy flavor it has, and because fortified brands of it is a good source of vitamin B12. I originally tried dulse granules as a salt alternative because it has a nice umami flavor. The two combined is a lovely savory, but salt-free combination. May not look very pretty, but trust me, it’s delicious!
Salty snacks are a staple for me, so I was thrilled to find these intriguing-looking snacks … at a CVS no less. I’ve never heard of Crunch-A-Mame Edamame Puffs. I love edamame and anything made from edamame, as soybeans are a great source of protein. These were vegan and gluten-free so I bought some to try. They’re perhaps a tad salty, but very tasty regardless! There’s a chance I may buy these again!
In addition to my salty tooth, I admittedly also have a sweet tooth. Fun times trying to satisfying both. But I stumbled upon these vegan and gluten-free chocolate chip walnut cookies at A Matter of Health where I often get groceries and whatnot while I’m at work. They’re surprisingly not too sweet and quite satisfying.
As I do every Sunday, I visited Peacefood Cafe near Union Square to get their vegan and gluten-free savory veggie biscuits. This past Sunday, their biscuit was pizza – there was tomato sauce, cheese, olives, and probably a few other vegetables. Super tasty!
The previous Sunday, Peacefood Cafe’s biscuit was a three-“cheese” and garlic. Also super tasty! (I mean, anything with garlic is delicious to me!)
Stay tuned in upcoming weeks for more vegan eats from around New York City!
